HOUSE RESOLUTION 28
(By Delegates Staton and Sparks)
H. R. 28 -- "Commemorating the passing of Morris L. Meadows,
former Delegate, community leader and trusted friend."
whereas, Morris L. Meadows, a former member of the House of
Delegates from Wyoming County, died on Saturday evening March 28,
1998. Born on June 17, 1917, in Pageton, West Virginia, Morris
received his education in the public schools of Wyoming County and
Concord College; and
whereas, Married May 21, 1940, to the former Ruby A. Bellew,
they had two daughters, Lillian and Jennifer; and
whereas, He did not let his affliction with polio hinder his
life. He started teaching at Brenton Grade School in 1938, and the
following year became principal. His desire for learning
eventually led him to become an electrician, and during the Second
World War, he worked in the Naval Shipyards in Portsmouth,
Virginia. Following WWII, he was elected as a Justice of Peace in
Baileysville, and later served as the Postmaster in the
Baileysville Post Office and also served on the Board of Education
in Wyoming County; and
whereas, Morris L. Meadows served his county and state with
distinction, integrity and honesty. His devotion to learning and
to his community will certainly be missed; therefore, be it
Resolved by the House of Delegates:
That regret is hereby expressed by the members of the House of
Delegates at the passing of Morris L. Meadows, former member,
colleague and friend; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates be
hereby directed to forward a copy of this resolution to Mrs. Ruby
A. Meadows, his wife, and to his two daughters, Lillian M. Meadows
and Jennifer E. Stewart.
